Wine Enthousiast December 2012
"91 Points" Jeriko Estate 2012 Pinot Noir Reserve
JERIKO ESTATE, located 30 minutes north of the small town of Healdsburg in the "Upper Russian River Territory" in Southern Mendocino County, is a panoramic display of early California and Mediterranean-style architecture. Surrounded by 200 acres of vineyards, trees and foothills, the Russian River flows to the east.
Key to Jeriko’s philosophy is the use of Biodynamic farming practices. Cover crops promote diversity and encourage a healthy soil balance without using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides. We have found that wines grown with Biodynamic or Organic methods exhibit good structural balance and require less manipulation during the vinification process; as well as being good for animal life and the environment. It’s common to see chickens, goats, and sheep roaming Jeriko’s vineyards and hillsides.
Winegrower Daniel Fetzer learned the art of winemaking and viticulture at an early age with his ties to the family business that bears the Fetzer name. The Fetzer family gained world wide recognition for producing premium Mendocino County wines of value and also for their pioneering efforts in spearheading the organic winegrowing movement.
Jeriko Estate is Certified Biodynamic by Demeter, and Organic by Stellar Certification Services.

"Let nature create the wonders, and we will work hard to support and enhance her efforts."

At Beaver Creek, our sheep and goats graze and fertilize our vineyards while pure water brings life in to fertile soil. The micro-flora of the vineyards works harmoniously with the fauna, thus creating a complete circle. We harvest by hand, selecting only the best grapes for our wines. In the cellar, the winemaking process is completely natural, without any additives. Wines are aged in fifty percent new French, Hungarian and American oak. All wine is hand-crafted from beginning to end.

It is very difficult to find one person who believes in biodynamic and organic agriculture and has the "know-how" of wine making process, yet at Beaver Creek we have been fortunate enough to bring together three such personalities: Bruno, Martin and Joseph. Although each has a different background, they all share the common vision "to make the best and the healthiest wines in the world."

Beaver Creek Vineyards is located in Lake County, a truly unique corner of California. With the largest natural freshwater lake entirely in California, appropriately called Clear Lake, this county has been revered for centuries by the native populations of California, who prize the lake and its environs for their healing properties. Mount Konocti, an inactive volcano on the south shore of Clear Lake, gave the Lake County its volcanic soil and helped to create the area's lovely hills full of unspoiled vegetation and flora and its many hot springs, which have been long prized for their healing properties.

Frey Vineyards' New Wines

Frey Vineyards' Organic Agriculturist comprises a delicious blend of Carignane, Merlot, and Syrah grapes. These traditional Rhone varietals are processed
without added sugars, acids, or preservatives, creating a fruit-forward California-grown red wine.
The overall pursuit with Organic Agriculturist was to blend an exceptionally food-friendly wine. A spicy, aromatic nose gives way to damson plum and plush berry tones on the palate. The firm structure and grippy tannins of the Carignane and Syrah provide a well-balanced backbone for savory roasted meats, while the softness of the Merlot informs a delicate touch that would compliment vegetarian
cuisine. Aged with a touch of French oak, the wine has a lingering cedary finish along with a hint of allspice.
Pairs well with spice-crusted rack of lamb, caramelized shallots and roasted root vegetables, or a fennel and blood-orange salad.

Frey Vineyards' Field Blend is graced with a subtle nose of red currant, a hint of star anise, and rose hips. The flavors lend themselves to an available freshness showing dewberry, white pepper, red beet, and a touch of licorice. The finish is nicely balanced with robust flavors of kola nut, and cherry bark.
For Field Blend, we took the best of our estate-grown grapes, starting with our Syrah for composed structure, melding it with our Zinfandel for added spice, and rounding everything out with our soft, plummy
Merlot. Field Blend pairs harmoniously with grilled flank steak with olive sauce, paella with spicy sausage, or penne with porcini mushrooms.

Live-a-Little Fair-Trade NSA Organic Wines from South Africa

Now and then a wine is required that doesn't need a ritual on opening, whose departure from a co

llection is not accompanied by nostalgic memories of its purchase. A wine that doesn't need glasses you don't have. Sometimes one wants a wine to be a song heard a thousand times, something to hum to, tap to, work with. A wine that's finished before you get to know it, a wine you begin to miss only when it's gone. A wine that realizes there are other things in life, a lot of other things. (Wine geeks may read the fine print).

The Live-a-Little range was created to be that wine. Made from our more generously yielding vineyards, the grapes are given the same care in the coldrooms and the crusher as our more serious offerings. Yeasts specially selected for this style are used. Ferment temperatures are kept in check and pump-overs done less vigorously. Earlier pressing, racking and filtering retain the vibrant colour and fruit, resulting in an entry-level wine that will surprise and revive you.
